PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) registration fee — commonly called PTA tax — is a one-time charge on mobile phones brought into Pakistan from abroad. Under Pakistan's DIRBS (Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System) framework, every mobile device operating on a Pakistani SIM must be registered. Phones purchased from official brand stores, authorized dealers, or online retailers inside Pakistan are already PTA approved — you pay zero extra.
You only need PTA registration if you: (a) bought a phone abroad or while traveling internationally, (b) received a phone as a gift from someone outside Pakistan, or (c) purchased a brand with no official Pakistan presence — such as Google Pixel or OnePlus.
Pakistan offers two registration channels through the DIRBS portal:
If you recently returned from abroad with a phone, always choose Passport registration. For example, an iPhone 16 Pro Max costs PKR 213,631 via CNIC but only PKR 182,710 via Passport — a saving of over PKR 30,000.
Important: You have 60 days from when the phone first connects to a Pakistani network to register. After that, the device may be blocked from calls and mobile data.
The duty amounts on this calculator are based on the FBR (Federal Board of Revenue) Valuation Ruling 2035/2026. FBR sets a fixed customs value for each phone model — the tax is calculated on this official valuation, not on what you actually paid. Even if you bought a phone at a discount abroad, the duty is based on FBR's declared price. Rulings are updated periodically, so verify the final amount at dirbs.pta.gov.pk before making payment.
PTA tax is a registration fee charged by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on mobile phones that are not officially purchased in Pakistan. This includes phones bought abroad or received as gifts from outside Pakistan.
You can register your mobile phone with PTA through the DIRBS portal at dirbs.pta.gov.pk. You need your phone IMEI number, CNIC or passport, and payment of the applicable tax.
Passport registration is cheaper than CNIC registration. Passport registration requires a valid Pakistani passport showing international travel within the last 60 days.
